Disney's Hollywood Studios
Park History
The park was conceived to serve both as a venue for attractions and as a film studio. Construction began in 1987 but accelerated when the Universal Studios Florida project was launched a few miles away. To attract more visitors, Disney collaborated with MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) to diversify the films presented in the park. The film production part was closed in the 2000s, and the buildings have since housed new attractions.
In 2008, the park became Hollywood Studios, and the MGM mention was removed from all locations in the park. In the early 2010s, the park moved away from the intention of being a behind-the-scenes look at cinema to enter a more immersive dimension inspired by Hollywood films and stories.
Attendance
In 2018, the park welcomed 11.25 million visitors, making it the eighth most visited park in the world. There is no doubt that this number should skyrocket with the opening of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge in 2019.
